BREATH TEST H2 / CH4 / CO2

breathTest Medical Electronic Construction R&D has developed a full range of breath test monitors to satisfy the needs of gastroenterologists with increased attention on patients’ well-being.The Lactotest devices have been developed to provide quick and reliable diagnosis of gastro-intestinal disorders measuring carbohydrate breakdown deficiencies and/or malabsorption. Particularly efficient for lactose intolerance screening, the Lactotest range also gives good indication of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and evaluates intestinal transit time. The electrochemical sensor with thermal compensation for Hydrogen (H2) and infra-red gas analyzers for Methane (CH4) and Carbon dioxide (CO2) (only for Lactotest 202) deliver an accurate test measurement in less than one minute. H2 is produced in the intestinal lumen by bacteriological breakdown of carbohydrates and its detection helps clinicians to understand digestive problems. However, many studies proved that approximately 35% of the population produces CH4, alternatively or in addition to H2. The role of CH4 is to ensure that these patients are not miss-diagnosed, therefore reducing the percentage of false negative tests. It is also important to measure the CO2 concentration in the breath to determine whether the samples for analysis are alveolar, otherwise results are underestimated. With the CO2 correction factor (applied to H2 and CH4), the Lactotest 202 implements an essential verification of the results.
